Phenomenal experience. Tour was well-planned and executed. Guide was extremely knowledgeable about indigenous culture and traditions, and of course, the experience of the Embera people sharing even one day was transformative. I highly recommend this tour.

Frequent questions about this tour

  • Q: How do we get to the Emberá village?

    A:

After a scenic drive from Panama City, about 1h, you’ll board a traditional motorized dugout canoe that takes you upriver to the village. The ride usually lasts 20–30 minutes depending on water levels.

  • Q: What kind of canoe will we ride in?

    A:

You’ll travel in a traditional dugout canoe (motorized), piloted by experienced Emberá guides through Chagres River.

  • Q: Can I bring gifts for the children or villagers?

    A:

Yes, but we encourage culturally respectful, practical items—such as school supplies or basic toiletries. Please coordinate this with your guide so it’s done appropriately.

  • Q: Do I need to be fit for this tour?

    A:

Most of the tour is easy and suitable for all ages. The short walk to the waterfall can be slippery and uneven, so a moderate level of mobility is recommended. A walking stick is helpful but not essential.

  • Q: Can I swim at the waterfall?

    A:

Yes! Swimming is optional and safe when water levels permit. Bring a swimsuit, towel, and water shoes or sandals with grip if you’d like to enjoy the refreshing dip.

  • Q: Are there bathrooms available during the tour?

    A:

Basic restroom facilities are available at the village. There are no facilities at the river dock or waterfall trail.

  • Q: Is this tour ethical and respectful to the Emberá people?

    A:

Yes. Panama Your Way works directly with the Emberá community to ensure all visits are mutually beneficial, culturally sensitive, and environmentally sustainable.
